Imperatriz set to race in Australia in 2024
Imperatriz is set to race in Australia again in the Autumn of 2024 after her ownership group confirmed that the key Sprint races that Melbourne and Sydney have to offer would be her main focus.
Te Akau racing confirmed they had received a number of invitations to travel internationally and race there star sprinter in the Northern Hemisphere. However after claiming 6 Group One Victories in 2023, they would be keeping Imperatriz down under in the Autumn.
"We have worked diligently through the various options available to our special mare," Te Akau Chief David Ellis said.
"Our guiding principle is to always make decisions based on what is right for Imperatriz and her continued wellbeing, and longevity, while maximising her further opportunities to win at the elite level.
"Once safely through the Lightning Stakes, Imperatriz will defend her Group 1 MVRC William Reid Stakes crown at The Valley and then contest the Group 1 ATC TJ Smith Stakes at Royal Randwick in April 2024. She will then return home to Te Akau Stud for a well deserved spell."
The only taste of defeat Imperatriz had in her past 6 starts came when she was caught late by Artorius in the Group One Canterbury Stakes at Randwick on 4th March.
She would return to the track later in March to win the Group One William Reid before returning once again in Spring to claim the Group 2 McEwan Stakes at the Valley before winning three Group One’s in a row in the Moir and Manikato Stakes before taking out the Champions Sprint at Flemington.
"Te Akau Racing, together with her owners, are very humbled by respect and huge support Imperatriz (Berri as we know her) has attracted," Ellils said.
"The warmth of the welcome wherever she steps out underlines how she has truly endeared herself to the public through her huge heart and will to win."
