All Aged Stakes Tips
The All Aged Stakes is one of the oldest races on the Sydney Racing calendar with its origins dating back as far as 1865 where the first ever edition of the race was won by Maid Of The Lake.
Originally set up as a 1 mile race the AJC set the race up to be a contest available for trainers to pit horses of the highest abilities of all ages including two year olds and run under Weight For Age conditions.
There have been some impressive names win previous editions of the All Aged Stakes with the likes of Carbine, Wakeful and Ajax, who won the race three times, all winning editions of the Autumn Group One Contest.
In more recent years the pedigree of winners has still been incredibly high with the likes of Hay List, All Too Hard and Hot Danish all winning the race. Even the mighty Sunline was a dual winner of the race taking out the contest once in 2000 and again in 2002.
Most recently however there has been some criticism of the race with only mediocre fields lining up for the $1m contest. However now with a boosted prize pool of $1.5m and stars still chasing G1 success this campaign there is a star studded line up set to tackle the 1400m race.
2023 All Aged Stakes Race Overview
On paper there looks to be plenty of talent lining up for the 2023 All Aged Stakes with Everest winner Giga Kick looking to claim his first Group One title of the Autumn after being narrowly pipped to victory in the TJ Smith Stakes last time out.
Giga Kick leads the betting as a clear $3.20 favourite but is stepping out to the unknown having not previously competed beyond 1200m. As a result there are plenty of horses hot on his heels in betting with the familiar face of Zaaki holding second favouritism at $6 while Jacquinot and Mazu sit on the third line with a $7.50 price tag.
Zaaki is yet to feature this Autumn after trainer Annabel Neasham sent him back to the paddock for failing to perform at a number of trials this. However if he performs he could be the one to beat and looks like the bookies are taking now chances with his price.
Elsewhere Yoshita Yahagi puts another Japanese runner into the race with Ho O Amazon tackling another Group One for one of Japan’s premier trainers.
Ho O Amazon sits as a $16 chance however has strong form lines in the land of the rising sun against some of the nation's biggest names. We have also seen Unicorn Lion put on a strong front running performance in the QEII Stakes and we could see the same from Yahagi runner number two.
Elsewhere we also see previous Group One winners Private Eye, Lost and Running, Roch ‘N’ Horse and last year's winner Cascadian line up in this year's All Aged Stakes with the latter coming off a bold run in his Australian Cup win.
2023 All Aged Stakes Top Selections
A field of 12 runners are set to take on this years edition of the All Aged Stakes and we have whittled down the field to our best outside chance, the main danger and our best bet to win the 2023 All Aged Stakes.
2023 All Aged Stakes Best Outside Bet - 7. Ho O Amazon (7)
Trainer: Yoshita Yahagi
Price: $16.00
Yoshita Yahagi has travelled to Australia in order to compete and saw a good showing from Unicorn Lion in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Now he turns to the second of his two runners and Ho O Amazon maps to have a very strong chance of winning once again.
Ho O Amazon has a front running style and should be able to roll along in the lead on this one. This 5 year old stallion, while not shooting the lights out form wise on paper, has been involved in nearly all Japan's premier races this season and has been far from disgraced in any of them.
You could argue this is slightly weaker for him here and at the price presents great each way value. What’s more impressive is that he is yet to be defeated on Soft ground and with Randwick likely to play in that range on Saturday it could be interesting to watch the betting.
2023 All Aged Stakes Main Danger - 1. Zaaki (6)
Trainer: Annabel Neasham
Price: $6.00
Annabel Neasham’s superstar heads back to the track on Saturday in the hope he can rekindle some of the form that took him to the heights of one of the most feared middle distance runners in Australia.
Zaaki on his day should trash this field. He’s up to his ideal distance. He’s at one of his favourite tracks and has the world's best jockey James McDonald booked to ride him once again.
We haven’t seen Zaaki since he claimed the Group One Champions Mile at Flemington in the Spring and the 8yo was due to resume in February before behavioral issues meant the end to an All Star Mile Campaign.
Neasham brings him back to the track today and if he’s ready to go he should be going really close here. The price once again presents excellent value and his draw maps him right in this and if he’s back on form should be fighting out the finish.
2023 All Aged Stakes Best Bet - 11. Jacquinot (4)
Trainer: Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr
Price: $7.50
We’re willing to go with the young gun on this one and pick Jacquinot to win the Group One All Aged Stakes.
Jacquinot’s form is strong for this one having gone undefeated at the distance and was charging late in the Australian Guineas when finishing 6th behind Legarto. He gets a good draw here and if he can steer clear out of trouble then should be going close.
His win in the CF Orr is the one that really puts you on notice having once again charged late in the straight to win on protest after being hampered badly by Gentleman Roy. When you watch it back its the grit to lift when all the other runners were coming at him to lift and clear out from them.
Has grabbed a place in this years Everest as well as going undefeated first up he looks to be a very good chance in this one and at that price happy to avoid Giga Kick who has a terrible draw and with the questions over distance like the value that Jacquinot presents.
