Verry Elleegant was the superstar of last spring winning a trio of Group 1 titles and Zaaki has been in sensational form winning two Group 2’s and a Group 1 during the Winter Carnival in Brisbane.
Now the two are set to clash in a series of races across the Spring with the first interaction likely to be the Group 1 George Main Stakes over 1600m at Royal Randwick on September 18.
Following on from this there are then a few avenues each runner could go down with the Hill Stakes at G2 level offering $1m in prize money or the G1 Turnbull Stakes ($500k) at Flemington likely to get the attention of their trainers.
Of course the natural aim for both stables is likely to be a tilt at the Group 1 W.S Cox Plate. A weight for age contest which has prize money of $5m held on the 23rd October this year.
Having had a full schedule in the Brisbane Winter Carnival Zaaki is slightly behind Verry Elleegant in his comeback prep after only returning to the Neasham stables at Warwick Farm last week.
Very Elleegant however will be looking to resume in the coming weeks with a trial likely on Friday or early next week Chris Waller will be aiming the champion mare at the G1 Winx Stakes in August.
Zaaki is likely to resume in the Tramway Stakes at Group 2 level at the start of September which will then give the gelding a couple of weeks before clashing with the Waller runner in the George Main.
Current betting for the George Main stakes see punters or bookies unable to split the rivals with both sitting at $3 in betting for the $1m 1600m race.
