Tofane drew wide in the barrier draw for the Group 1 contest at Caulfield however trainer Mike Moroney believes she is going as good as ever in her preparation.
“She looks particularly well, all dappled up in her coat,” the enamored Moroney said.
“I’ve always been a believer that mares are better this time of year and she’s certainly raced that way (before).
“Hopefully she can do the same (Saturday), she’s going to have to because it’s a pretty slick field.”
The Group 1 winning mare drew barrier 8 for the race and will need to find cover early to find a good run in the race.
“I don’t know how, the way I’ve looked at it, it will be a bit tricky to get cover,” Moroney said.
“She’s at an age now I think she’s probably a little bit easier to ride … we might take the bull by the horns and go a bit more forward.”
Moroney has not mapped a plan for Tofane beyond the Group One Futurity Stakes on February 26.
The All-Star Mile at Flemington on March 19 could be an option, although a second Group One All Aged Stakes in Sydney remains firmly on the agenda.
While Moroney could not rule out a return to Brisbane for the reigning Stradbroke Handicap-Tattersalls Tiara winner, Tofane’s broodmare potential will ultimately decide her future.
Tofane currently sits on the second line of betting alongside Behemoth and Moneyball at $6.50 with recent import Sinawinn leading the betting at the $4 price mark.
