Cox Plate favourite Zaaki has opened up at Winx level prices for the Group 1 Might and Power Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday with the markets opening at just $1.25 on the import.
The Annabel Neasham trained runner notched up his second Group 1 of the year when winning the Underwood Stakes over 2000m at just $1.18.
Zaaki’s other Group 1 success had come when winning the Doomben Cup by over 7 lengths in late July before adding the Group 2 Q22 to his list of accomplishments.
The bookies are clearly expecting the trend to continue with the ex european runner likely to jump shorter than his Underwood price on the day.
Such is the gravity of Zaaki’s presence in the market there are currently only 4 other runners lower than $34 in the field of 10.
Kiwi sensation Probabeel stands out as one of the main dangers at $7 with Godolphin runner Colette expected to make the most of any moisture in the surface at $9.
The other two under $34 in betting are Homesman and Nonconformist but it would hard to see either affecting the procession Zaaki is on at the moment.
As with the Underwood it looks as though most runners have been scared off by Neasham’s Zaaki with just 11 nominations so far with entries extended to Tuesday in an attempt to bolster numbers.
One thing is for sure however, if Zaaki wins again convincingly here the import price for the Cox Plate will be moving into Winx like figures very quickly there as well.
