Jockey Kerrin McEvoy has been able to find another ride in the Sydney Cup after partnering with Daqiansweet Junior for the Phillip Stokes yard after trainer Edward Cummings elect to send his previous booking, Duais to the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
McEvoy’s manager confirmed that his jockey had been booked to partner the Adelaide Cup winner in the 3200m Sydney Cup on Monday afternoon.
It was a late change once again for the Sydney based hoop after he had only been booked to ride Tancred Stakes winner Duais because he could achieve the low weight but with Josh Parr able to ride the 57kg in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes the team elected to run her there.
Duais currently sits as a $5 chance for the QEII Stakes but McEvoy is yet to find a ride in the race. However he does now have a chance to compete for a Group 1 title after being booked by the South Australian Stable to ride their runner.
The Stokes stable had been without a rider for there Adelaide Cup winner after Jamie Kah elected to ride Crystal Pegasus in the Randwick feature on Saturday.
With Daqiansweet Junior being allocated 51.5kgs for the Sydney Cup it was proving difficult for the Stokes team to find a pilot however with the withdrawal of Duais the stars have aligned in both parties favour.
Daqiansweet Junior was a favourable home winner in the Adelaide Cup and now sits as a $15 shot for the Sydney Cup however it is likely that price will shorten now after the withdrawal of Duais.
