Godolphin have made the decision to retire Group 1 winner Colette and she will now head to a new career in the breeding barn.
Managing Director of Godolphin Australia operations Vin Cox confirmed on Monday that the daughter of fellow Group 1 winner Hallowed Crown would be retired with immediate effect and head straight to the breeding barn for the new season.
Trained by James Cummings, Colette has battled in recent weeks with the heavy track and last Saturday finished last in Saturday’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes at Randwick.
For many punters it wasn’t a world ending run for fans of Colette who had delivered many inspiring and barn storming runs during a short but illustrious career.
The Group 1 winner enjoyed a 25 career start which were highlighted by wins in the Australian Oaks and the Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington in the past two years.
Colette’s biggest achievement though however was her win in the $7.5m Golden Eagle where she got through the heavy going to win one of Australia’s richest race at Rosehill Gardens.
“Interestingly she is the highest earner Godolphin Australia has owned,” Cox said.
“She has been a hugely popular contributor to the Godolphin team, she has given some great thrills on the track and we look forward to her contribution as a broodmare.”
A winner from 1400m to 2400m, Colette highlighted her versatility throughout her career while banking just over $7.1m in prizemoney for her powerhouse yard.
