The partnership of Chris Waller Racing and Guy Mulcaster lodged the winning $210,000 bid to win Lot 1401 - a bay colt by the late great Redoute’s Choice from the Japanese mare La Fouine Tail.
“He was a big strong colt and thought he’d be suitable for the operation,” Mulcaster said.
“We thought he’d be a little bit later developing but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him head to the races as a late two-year-old.
“We pretty much bought him on spec but he’s already fully subscribed.
“We were pretty happy at the money we got him at so now we’ll just take him along step by step.”
As far as Redoute’s go, $210,000 was a snip given that yearlings from last years crop averaged over $450k each with highest price colt sold was $800,000.
Redoute’s Choice sadly passed on March 26th in 2019 after leaving a huge legacy both on and off the track.
On the course the champ won 4 group 1 titles including the Blue Diamond Stakes, Caulfield Guineas, Manikato Stakes and CF Orr Stakes.
During his stud career was when Redoute’s Choice really gain notoriety by producing 160 stakes winners in multiple countries with 34 individual Group 1 winners and amassing $150m in prize money from his progeny.
His crop have gone on to great things with the likes of Lankan Rupee, Miss Finland and more recently the Autumn Sun all amassing millions in whilst winning multiple Group 1 titles.
