Regalo Di Gaetano was easy in the market on Saturday drifting out to double figures before the jump, but under the ride of Zac Spain the South Australian was able to make it three wins in a row in relatively easy fashion.
The horse has a popular following and such is the enthusiasm by owners and connections that they will often don the colours of the Italian flag to match the colours that Regalo Di Gaetano bares.
Richard Jolly has been so impressed with the form of the fan favourite he is already thinking that his runner has every chance to be selected for the $5m All Star Mile once again.
“The horse is really flying,’’ Jolly said.
“The odds (Eclipse Stakes) were a bit surprising but it was a good watch. I was confident in the run and especially from about the 600m.
“The horse knows where the post is and Zac (Spain) rode him so well. We were going to run him in the Ballarat Cup but the conditions didn’t suit so we targeted this race and were committed to Zac riding him there.
“I need to speak to the owners about definite plans but the All-Star Mile seems the likely option.
“The horse will be spelled now to get ready for the autumn.’’
The horse ran 11th place on a heavy track in 2021 when the race was won in impressive fashion by Kris Lees trained Mugatoo.
Regalo Di Gaetano currently sits down the betting as an $81 shot to take out the 2022 running of the All Star Mile.
