Johnny Get Angry is one of 20 nominations to contest the Aurie’s Star Handicap over 1200m down the Flemington Straight.
Despite only having had a full trainer licence for less than 6 months Johnny Get Angry was Pagan’s maiden Group 1 win when he beat a stacked field in the VRC Derby over 2500m last year.
We haven’t seen Johnny Get Angry since that win and it is likely he will need the hit out in the Aurie’s Star at Flemington worth $200,000.
It’s looking to be a busy spring for Pagan and for his young stable star with a tilt at the Melbourne Cup the overall goal.
Pagan has confirmed that Johnny Get Angry will be ridden by Jamie Mott with regular rider Lachie King out after a fall at Wodonga and recovering from injury.
The Aurie’s Star is looking set to be a lively race with the Lindsay Park team looking to win the race they won in 2019 with So Si Bon by fielding impressive 4 year old Aysar for the race.
2019 Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O’Brien is also sending a strong team to compete with Banquo and Order Of Command nominated to run.
Probably the most notable runner will be the inclusion of Anthony and Sam freedman runner La Mexicana.
La Mexicana was beaten narrowly on resumption first up at Caulfield in Listed Company however is looking for a maiden Group 1 herself this campaign. If she is set to do so the Freedmans will be looking for her to go close here.
