The TAB opened up its latest round of markets for the TJ Smith and the 3200m Sydney Cup on Monday after having opened pre-nomination markets for the Doncaster Mile and Queen Elizabeth Stakes last week.
As is to be expected, star sprinter Nature Strip heads the TJ Smith betting at $4.50 and will be going for a third consecutive win in the race and emulate Chautauqua on winning the Sydney sprint three times in his career.
Nature Strip was in imperious form during the Spring winning three out of four starts including the $15m Everest, the VRC Sprint Classic up the Flemington straight and only being bested by Eduardo in The Shorts in a thrilling race.
Joe Pride's runner, Eduardo, has opened up on the second line of betting for the TJ Smith at $7. Like Nature Strip, Eduardo raced seven times in 2021 and won 5 of those including wins in the Doomben 10,000 and the Classique Legend Stakes.
The other race drawing interest for the Autumn is the 2022 Sydney Cup where we see the first five across the line in the 2021 Melbourne Cup dominate the top of the betting.
Incentivise was the buzz horse of the spring after winning three G1s including Makybe Diva Stakes, Turnbull Stakes and Caulfield Cup and leads betting with two other runners.
One of those is now stablemate Spanish Mission after a recent purchase saw the UK import move to the Peter Moody Stable. The other runner is Maher and Eustace trained Floating Artist who all sit at $11 in betting for the Sydney Cup.
Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant sits on the second line of betting at $15 however she is expected to be contesting the Queen Elizabeth Stakes for another showdown against Addeeyyb.
