Summer racing is in full flight with the return of the Kia Friday Night Racing at Canterbury, and a nice support card at Moonee Valley.
CANTERBURY TRACK : Good RAIL: True
R1 1550m Schweppes Plate Maiden
Finally it’s the night for No.4 Mogwai. The honest Godolphin gelding hasn’t put in a bad run yet, and now with drawing the inside gate for James McDonald gets a great run box seating and has the ability to win this race well.
R3 1100m Nicks Group Maiden Handicap
Going to have a spec at a first starter here in a great little maiden contest. No. 6 To The Extreme has put in a couple of eye catching trials this time in. We’ll want see some runners making group in the first couple of races, if Rachael King can get clear air from her outside gate we think the grey filly can be right in the finish. No. 5 Power Ballard gets Nash on board and has some great formlines and is the main danger.
R4 1550m Jamberoo Action Park Handicap
No. 2 Willinga Freefall has come back in great order this preparation, battling bad luck and fighting out the finishes in both starts. Should get a great run close to the pace in a race bereft of much pace and with even luck should pick up a well deserved fourth win.
R6 1100m Piccolo Me Handicap
No. 4 Gundy Bridge didn’t put it’s best foot forward last time in, but it’s latest trial suggests that it could be back to it’s best. Regan Bayliss should push forward from the outside gate and Canterbury is a track that looks right up it’s alley.
MOONEE VALLEY TRACK: Good RAIL: +7m
R1 1200m Ranvet Plate
A big race 9 race program greets us at The Valley, where we kick off with a nice start in the form of a Godolphin debutante. No. 4 Jambalaya produced two magnificent jump outs in Melbourne, gets the services of the now in form Jamie Kah who can take it straight to front and lead them a merry dance.
R6 2400m Simpson Construction Handicap 2040m
The Valley looks like the perfect track for No. 7 Sir Kingsford. The South Aussie raider was impressive on pace up to his pet distance, in a race that has had form franked from it already. With map favours here is a great each way bet.
R8 1000m ESDA Group Handicap F & M BM70
Have liked the progression of lightly raced daughter of Overshare, No. 10 Under And Over. Harry Coffey rode well from the inside gate last time out but will natural upside a BM70 for the girls looks a great next step and we think she can make it three wins from four starts here.
R9 1200m PJA Accountants & Business Advisors Handicap BM64
No. 9 Miss Icelandic is a talented, pulling up lame in her only below par run to date. Made a nice resumption resuming behind a talented galloper at Geelong, she’s better than BM64 grate and if swoopers are in play can win again here to finish the night.
