On the eve of the Melbourne’s first Group 1 of the Spring Carnival, we’ve got Friday night racing from Pakemham and a feature meeting from Wyong to build the bank for the weekend.
WYONG Track Soft – Rail True
R3 1100m Petroleum Products (C1)
No. 3 Betsy’s Flag made a lovely return to the races, never getting out of second gear first up at Hawkesbury. This is a great next step, heading to a tight track and being able to find the lead from the outside gate for Josh Parr look big ticks here for the mare to make it back to back wins.
R4 1300m Central Coast Coolrooms 3&4YO BM64
No. 3 Razors has no luck last start at Hawkesbury, now gets James McDonald on in an average field. Two starts back was impressive winning over the track and distance, so back to the scene of the crime presents no issues.
R5 1200m Bishop Collins Super Maiden
A big day out for the Godolphin Blue, as they should put together back to back wins for their 3YO charges. No. 4 Balkans debuted at Canterbury in a race that has produced multiple city winners since, and after a spell has produced two lovely trials in preparation for this. McDonald again takes the ride for another Wyong winner.
R6 1350 Listed Mona Lisa Stakes
Chalk up another one for the Godolpin/McDonald combination here. No 6 Va Via is a mare in red hot form, returning from impressive wins at Caulfield and maps beautifully in what is essentially a strong Saturday grade race. She’ll make the picket fence four long here.
R7 2100m Listed Carlton Wyong Gold Cup
A good race here for the feature on the card, with a number of these also accepting for Saturday at Randwick. A nice resumption over shorter from a strong Winter campaign followed by a good tickover trial last Friday has us putting No. 8 Kalapour on top. The honest stayer should find a lovely spot for jockey Tim Clark and is currenly great Each Way value.
