When winning the race in 2017 Portelli watched She Will Reign glide across the heavy Rosehill Gardens surface and now he’s looking towards Sejarden to do the same in 2022.
The gun colt has already booked a slot in the $5m Golden Slipper held in March at Rosehill each year, after winning the Group 3 Breeders Plate as well as the $1m Golden Gift in the Spring.
“When She Will Reign won the Slipper, we had to chase a start. She had to win a qualifier to get into the race,” Portelli said.
“Winning the Silver Slipper cemented her spot in the race and the rest is history so programming this colt for the race has been a different experience.
“He’s already booked his spot.”
Sejardan is already on the road to return and with the pre-trainers in order to kick off competitive racing in the new year.
Portelli confirmed Sejardan would be looking at a three start campaign ending in the Slipper.
“He’s come back in and is doing some light work at the pre-trainers,” he said. “He looks magnificent.
“He’s got a couple more weeks there, then he’ll come back in and we are going to aim up at the Inglis Millennium.
“Then we’ll freshen up, five weeks into the Todman and the Slipper.”
TAB Fixed Odds has Sejardan listed as the $9 second favourite in its Golden Slipper all-in market behind Gimcrack winner, the Magic Millions bound Coolangatta at $4.50.
