Attrition looking at Golden Eagle Challenge
Trainer Michael Freedman has confirmed that it’s likely he will be sending impressive Toorak Handicap winner Attrition to Sydney to tackle the $10m Golden Eagle in early November.
Attrition demonstrated his full range of abilities when defeating hot favourite Antino to win the Group One Toorak Handicap and Freedman is now set to test his runner further by entering him in Sydney’s mega rich four year old race, The Golden Eagle.
"We are not absolutely locked in but the Golden Eagle is certainly very enticing," Freedman said.
"All signs are good that he has pulled up well at this stage and if continues to progress then we are likely to come up.
"There is the Crystal Mile on Cox Plate day at The Valley and Champions Mile so there is plenty of other options for him so it's just a matter of picking the right one.
"But certainly the prizemoney and the fact it's four-year-olds only, it makes coming for a Golden Eagle very enticing, that's for sure."
The Toorak Handicap has been a good place to find the Golden Eagle winner with I Wish I Win finishing 5th in the race on route to winning the $10m feature and I’m Thunderstruck winning completely a Toorak - Golden Eagle double in 2021.
Freedman confirmed the team celebrated after the Group One win on Saturday with owners connections and stable staff with a few sore heads coming into the start of the week.
"I got through it but I am still a bit tender (on Tuesday)," Freedman said.
"We put the celebrations (on hold), went out and had a nice dinner with the owners and celebrated with the staff on Sunday.
"It's definitely sunk in now and we certainly enjoyed it."
