Favourite Rolled in Magic Millions Classic
It would be high priced colt Highness who would climb over the top of race favourite Spywire late to claim the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic as the $900k purchase justified his price tag at the midweek feature.
Unbeaten sprinter Spywire under the ride of jockey Tyler Schiller looked to have the race won as they entered the home straight however the Michael Freedman trained Highness grew an extra leg to power home late and claim victory.
Stewards did question Schiller after the race around the vigour of his ride in the closing stages of the race that allowed Highness to get home late.
As a result of the win Highness shifted quickly into contention on the betting markets for both the Magic Millions 2yo Classic on the Gold Coast as well as the Golden Slipper.
"I think he has a really good future," Freedman said.
"I loved his run (on debut) in the Breeders' Plate where he didn't have a great deal of luck back earlier in the spring.
"He had a little bit of a let up and went to Newcastle the other day (for a trial) but I think he is a fairly high class horse."
Highness finished sixth on debut in the Group 3 Breeders Plate however jockey Tommy Berry who rode him on debut was full of praise for the Snitzel colt and expected him to improve off his first up run in the bigger and more lucrative races.
