Cox Plate 2023 Final Field Confirmed
Five of the current field took to the Moonee Valley course on Tuesday in preparations for Saturday’s Cox Plate with a number faring better than others in the barrier draw that was taking place at the same time.
A stacked field of 12 talented runners will line up at the Valley on Saturday including two international runners from the Northern Hemisphere.
Romantic Warrior, despite failing to fire in the Turnbull Stakes, still leads the market for the 2023 Cox Plate at $4. The race favourite drew right in the middle of the field claiming barrier 7 for jockey James McDonald and trainer Danny Shum.
The other international in the field is Aiden O’Brien trained Victoria Road who will jump from barrier 6 and give jockey Blake Shinn a host of options from the midfield barrier.
Second favourite and leading the charge for the locals is Gai Waterhouse and Adrien Bott trained winner of the Might and Power Stakes, Alligator Blood who will just from barrier 5 for jockey Tim Clark.
The inside gate was drawn out by Ed Cummings trained Duais who will jump from barrier one. On the other end Zaaki drew barrier 12 with both runners seemingly to have taken unfavourable stalls for their running styles.
Of the best of the locals Mr. Brightside for Ben and JD Hayes appeared to draw the best receiving barrier two in the race. The inside gate should allow the two time Doncaster winner to get a steady rails run and kick home late.
Fellow Group One winners Gold Trip and Fangirl also have reasonable draws with barriers 8 and 9 respectively which should give them options to go back or forward.
Completing the field are My Oberon (4), Pinstriped (11), Militarize (3) and King Colorado (10).
