The suspension given to Bowman relates to careless riding in the Champagne Stakes and will result in Bowman missing the next couple of Saturdays after the stewards handed out his 17 day sentence,
Bowman had been riding the well fancied Port Louis who had opened up at $34 in betting at the start of the week and was in to $5 at the jump. A late tactical move to get the well fancied runner into the fresh air resulted in a stewards inquiry being opened.
The stewards' report read: "H Bowman, rider of Port Louis, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 300m he directed his mount out around the heels of Lease and as result made contact with Gin Martini, resulting in Gin Martini becoming unbalanced and being taken out onto Queen Of Wizardry, which in turn was taken out across the running of Patton, which had to be checked.
"H Bowman's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 2 May 2021 and to expire on Wednesday 19 May 2021 on which day he may ride."
Earlier in the day Bowman had been unseated from his runner Rothenburg which led to the horse being euthanized as a result of the injuries suffered.
After the incident a stewards enquiry cleared Bowman from any wrongdoing and instead layed the blame at James McDonalds door who was subsequently handed a 10 day suspension.
Bowman finished the day with a winner and two seconds, having piloted surprise Frank Packer Plate winner Senor Toba ($26), plus runner-up finishes aboard Ranier ($17) and Savatiano ($6) on an eventful day for the hoop.
