Alligator Blood and Just Fine ready for Caulfield
The Sydney stable is looking to ramp up their challenge on the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup this weekend with a two pronged assault on the Group One Might and Power Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Cox Plate hopeful Alligator Blood is a $2.30 favourite for the Might and Power, formerly the Caulfield Stakes, while Melbourne Cup challenger and stablemate is on the second line of betting at $3.90 having recently won the Group One Metropolitan.
Just fine is on a three race win streak for the stable which should guarantee him a starting berth in the Melbourne Cup next month with Waterhouse telling regular rider Rachel King to avoid taking any Cup rides.
"We told her to not take a ride in the Cup, simple as that," Waterhouse said.
"She hasn't done a bad job, she won the Sydney Cup last year and she's won the Metropolitan this year, she's hard to beat, isn't she?"
After winning the Group One Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick last week he jumped to the higher end of the betting and is currently listed as a $8 third favourite behind Irish Raider Vauban and last years winner Gold Trip.
"He's (Just Fine) a very nice gelding, very determined, a horse on the rise, every time you raise the bar he does it," Waterhouse said.
"When he first came here I liked him very much ... but as we've thrown the ball he's caught it and run with it, he's really surprised us the way he keeps improving."
Just Fine raced 14 times in England for Sir Michael Stoute for three wins and three placings.
