Aussie mare proving big hit in Japan
Yankee Rose continues to make her mark on the world of racing with another debut victory from her latest foal to begin a racing career in Japan.
Liberty Island, a two year old filly by Yankee Rose, put her name on the map when effortlessly won an All Debutant Handicap at $2.10, defeating the field by 3 lengths.
What’s more impressive about this two year old filly though is how she won when appearing to break the record for the fastest final 600m at 31.4 seconds. There was a slow early tempo and a decent tailwind however the speed shown was extremely eye catching.
Cox Plate runner up Yankee Rose is now two from two when it comes to supplying first time winners in Japan with half sister to Liberty Island, Romneya (by Deep Impact) winning at Nakayama in September of last year.
Despite early success, Romneya has since gone on to finish second in two of her starts this prep having also finished outside the placings in Group competition.
Yankee Rose was a $31 chance when she made her first appearance on the track before going on to win two Group One contests as well as finishing runner up in the Group One Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens.
One of her biggest achievements was finishing in the places behind Winx in the Cox Plate when carrying a bottom weight in the Weight For Age classic at Moonee Valley.
