The Winx Stakes is set to be the first Group 1 of the new racing season and the 1400m weight for age contest is already shaping up to be a big one.
Verry Elleegant will be walking a very similar path to that which she achieved so much on last year by looking to retain her crown in the Winx Stakes before heading on for tilts at bigger Group 1 targets.
Chris Waller already has a strong hand in the race seeing Verry Elleegant joined by fellow Group 1 winners Kolding and Hungry Heart as well as top Group 1 performers Imaging and Sea the Stars.
One of the battles to watch out for in the Spring will be that of flying import Zaaki taking on Verry Elleegant at some point, however while the Annabel Neasham trained star is not nominated his stablemate Mo’unga is listed.
Also showing a strong hand is the Godolphin team who have nominated Golden Eagle winner Colette as well as Doncaster MIle winner Cascadian.
Colette is one of the few trainers to have bested Verry Elleegant in recent times when beating her in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes on extremely heavy ground.
One interesting runner in the field is Japanese import Keiai Nautique who will be lining up for his first run in Australia for Matt Smith.
The son of Deep Impact will line up at Randwick having not won since 2018, however that win was at Group 1 level when winning over a mile in Tokyo.
