Vowmaster is nominated for the Chandon Handicap BM78 for 3yo & 4yo on Saturday at the Gardens and the decision was made early in the week to run Vowmaster at home rather than take part in the Zedative Stakes in Victoria.
The talented three year old opened odds on favourite for both contests at $1.80.
The Written Tycoon gelding had put the racing world on notice in recent months having won emphatically on debut at Kyneton settling at the back of the field and covering 10 lengths in the straight and win by nearly 2 lengths.
After such a strong win, Vowmaster took a trip to the Valley where he again put the field away convincingly winning by 2.5 lengths. Mix those wins in with a recent 6 length win at the trials and it’s easy to see why punters are excited.
Michael Walker has partnered Vowmaster in his first two runs and jockey Tommy Berry was aboard for his recent trial success. With Walker staying in Victoria and Berry now suspended James McDonald will partner with the gelding.
It’ll be interesting to see how Mcdonald goes leading into the race with the horse scheduled to carry 54kgs. James McDonald rarely rides at such a low weight having only done it once in the past 12 months.
With the Waller trained runner coming in at such a short price there is only one other runner in the race at single figures in Godolphin trained Andermatt at $8. Rachel King takes the ride here with him scoring on debut at Kembla Grange in May of last year before finishing behind Anders second up in the same month.
