With the Autumn Carnival in Sydney just round the corner Gollan is now keen to see what his runners are made of by testing them against the wider fields Group racing in Sydney can offer.
Jonker won impressively in the Magic Millions Snippets beating home Godolphin pair Exhilarates and Roheryn by over a length and now Gollan has the Group 1 Galaxy on Golden Slipper day his major target.
The win in the Snippets put trainers on notice considering trainer Gollan had only had the horse for 3 starts after transferring from the David Atkins stable.
“It was important to get through the summer first but he put the writing on the wall first up (winning the Keith Noud) for us that he is a serious horse,” Gollan said.
“He has obviously had form around some good horses before and he looks suited to a sprint under handicap conditions.
“Being a stallion and with his rating where it is, now is the time to test him in a race like The Galaxy.
“The weather will be a sticking point at that time of year in Sydney if it gets wet but we will have to wait and see.”
The Gollan stables other runners including Isotope and Krone with also be looking at Sydney targets.
Isotope comes off the back of an unfortunate performance in the 2yo Classic where she unseated the rider and failed to finish the race. Her most likely target will be the Derby Munro Stakes the same day as the Slipper and Galaxy at Rosehill.
Krone was a confident winner of the fillies and mares race at Magic Millions and will most likely be looking for more Group racing against the same sex in Sydney.
