Connections of the Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant as well as the runner up, Incentivise have dipped into their pockets again to purchase the third placed horse in the 2021 Melbourne Cup, Spanish Mission.
This now means that the first three runners past the post in the Cup last Tuesday are under the ownership of Brae Sokolski and Ozzi Kheir after the pair and other investors bought the Andrew Balding trained distance horse.
As a result of his purchase Spanish Mission will now be trained by prominent Australian trainer Peter Moody who already has Caulfield Cup winner Incentivise in his stable.
“I am pleased to announce that following his outstanding performance in this year’s Melbourne Cup, Spanish Mission will remain in Australia to be trained by Moody,” a statement from Sokolski read.
“Yesterday [Wednesday], I finalised a deal to secure Spanish Mission to race in partnership with Ozzie Kheir, Jonathan Rosham and our warm circle.
“I would like to thank the former owners of Spanish Mission, Gary Barber and Brian Irwin, who specifically approached me and gave me the opportunity to purchase their wonderful horse and keep him on our shores.
“Spanish Mission is truly a world class stayer, and importantly still on an upward trajectory with so much more to come.
“We will advise of future plans with him in due course.”
Spanish Mission currently sits on the fourth line of betting for the 2022 Melbourne Cup at $21 behind stablemate Incentivise who sits as joint favourite with fourth place finishing racehorse Floating Artist.
