Peter and Paul Snowden have won the Ramornie Handicap 4 times between them in recent years and now the market suggests they are going to go close in claiming a fifth win in the race.
Peter Snowdon had success in the race with Pinwheel in 2010 and again in 2011 winning the race with Jerezana. After entering a trainer partnership with his son Paul the pair then won the event in 2017 with Calanda and again in 2020 with Signore Fox.
One half of the training partnership, Paul Snowden confirmed that the pair would be entering King Of Sparta and Ranges and that the race comes at the right time of year to get the best from there runners.
“It’s a race that’s a few weeks after the carnival and it fits in well with these two characters that we’re taking up there,” he said.
“Signore Fox came through the Brisbane carnival so it’s a nice race for those types. You need to be a stakes performer and he won it then ended up running placings in Group 1s.”
Despite drawing wide barriers with King Of Sparta drawing 14 and Ranges drawing 10 the Snowdens feel there runners won’t be phased.
“Ranges jumps and can take up a spot so he’ll roll forward and try and slot in and who knows, he might sit outside the leader or be in the one-one in fourth of fifth,” Snowden said.
“The wide gate doesn’t matter for King Of Sparta because he can’t hold a spot from a good draw anyway.
“I’d be more than happy to have him three-deep with cover. That’s his best position. He can then suck up and get to the outside and let down.”
Magic Millions 3yo Guineas winner King Of Sparta currently sits as $4.80 favourite in betting while Ranges sits as second favourite at $7.80.
