While Ryan is in no doubt of the talent that Anamoe and the Godolphin stable he is also confident the son of Exceed and Excel can compete and is well above the right price in the market.
Standout is currently sitting around the $13 mark in the market before the final field is confirmed and is out to find a first win since winning the Group 2 Expressway Stakes first up at the same time in 2020.
The Ryan runner believes after Standout ran second to Masked Crusader in the Premiere Stakes as well as a second behind Big Parade in the Sydney Stakes he has strong enough formlines to be better off in the market.
“Given it is a good track and he has form around Eduardo and Lost And Running in the spring, I’d have to think he is well over the odds,” Ryan, who trains in partnership with Sterling Alexiou, said.
“The (dry) track is huge for him. This morning it was a good 4 at Rosehill and if the forecast is correct, it is going to stay that way.”
Standout went for a spell after finishing back in the field during The Hunter but has been back in the stable for about 6 weeks and had a trial in preparation for a first up return.
“Standout is standout, he doesn't change much and gets about his work.” Ryan said.
“He only had a couple of weeks off as he is quite a big horse that carries a lot of weight.
“He worked good on Saturday morning and worked terrific again on Tuesday morning.”
Kerrin McEvoy will be aboard Standout as he attempts to win the Expressway this Saturday at Royal Randwick.
