Ranges wins the Ramornie Handicap...
The Snowden family claimed a fifth Ramornie Handicap on Wednesday as Ranges took out the $200,000 sprint feature at Grafton.
The training pair were aiming to win another edition of the listed race with Paul Snowden confident that they would go close with Ranges because of his on speed running style and late speed and it turned out he was spot on.
Ranges didn’t get everything his own way having to put in work early to overcome the wide gate and managed to find a spot one off the leader Greyworm who was setting a strong tempo up front.
As the horses entered the home straight Ranges began to make his move on the 200m where he moved up and quickly past Greyworm to take the lead.
Despite chasing horses Gem Song and Fender who came rattling home late, neither could get close to the Snowden runner who took out 1200m sprint.
Stable rep for the Snowden’s Matthew McCudden was happy with the determination Ranges showed in grinding out a win for the team.
“He’s like a fine old wine, he just keeps getting better and it’s a testament to Peter and Paul at home,” McCudden said.
“It was his 35th start today and these races are just made for him.
“He’s the perfect racehorse. Nothing bothers him pre-race and he just goes out there and does everything right and takes bad luck out of the equation.”
