A small but powerful field of nine will clash in Saturday’s $4m Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick with the mouth watering field set to deliver a race for the ages.
The field, whilst small, has an impressive seven previous Group 1 winners which comprises four geldings, three mares, a three-year-old colt and an entire.
Probably the most exciting for the punters is finally getting to see a clash between the biggest names in racing with Zaaki, Verry Elleegant, Anamoe and the inform Duais set to square off as a quartet for the first time.
Whilst punters are excited to see a clash of these four there are also three other Group One winners in the field with Think It Over, Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained I’m Thunderstruck and Montefilia all lining up on Saturday.
Montefilia provides one of the most interesting form lines after toppling Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant in the recent Ranvet Stakes at Royal Randwick.
The final two runners making up the field of nine are consistent weight for age performers Dalasan and Mount Popa.
The Randwick track was rated a heavy (8) at acceptance time. The rail will be in the 4-metre position on Saturday.
In betting the punters clearly like the chances of Verry Elleegant to win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes after dueling with UK raider Addeyyb in previous editions of the race. Currently she sits as race favourite at $3.70.
Anamoe and Zaaki then sit on the second line of betting at $4.20 with Duais on the third line at $4.50. Montefilia is the only other runner in single figures at $8 with the rest of the field $15 bar.
