Portelli believes punters should be gobbling up the $1.70 available for Fireburn in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes as he can’t see how she gets beaten based on current form.
“We’ve seen all the horses and she’s beaten them easily so realistically I think she’s over the odds,” Portelli said.
“If she gets beat, she gets beat. She’s done a tremendous job already but I just can’t see how she gets beat.
“She’s just got too much on these two-year-olds this year.”
Fireburn started out her career with defeat at Warwick Farm but hasn’t looked back since going on to win the Golden Slipper and Inglis Sires.
Portelli never thought he would be seeing a more successful horse than 2017 Golden Slipper winner she will reign at the track however Fireburn is delivering to new levels.
“I understand the enormity of it all and I’m so excited that I could be a part of racing history,” Portelli said of Fireburn looking to achieve the 2yo triple crown.
“She Will Reign was amazing for me.
“Even now, I think I’ll win more Slippers. We’ve gone to a new level now.”
Stepping up in distance to 1600m doesn’t phase Portelli who believes Fireburn will thrive at the longer trip and could already be looking for it.
“The mile will be perfect. It will be so much easier because they will go slower and she’ll get into a better rhythm,” Portelli said.
“She knuckles down and sprints quickly.
“I wish the race was on Tuesday. She’s bouncing back and holding the same condition.”
Fireburn currently sits as a standout $1.70 favourite for the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
