Superstorm ruled out of Spring Carnival
Prominent WA owner Bob Peters had high hopes for Superstorm in the coming Spring, but a number of health problems have led to the horse being ruled out of the entire carnival.
Superstorm has been in training with the Danny O’Brien stable and achieved Group One success when winning the Cantala Stakes on Derby Day in 2021.
The WA raider also had success in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes as well as placings in the Group One Underwood Stakes and Toorak Handicap during the Spring Carnival.
Peters has now confirmed via TABradio that Superstorm will bypass the entire Spring in order to sort a number of problems with the runner.
“Superstorm won’t be competing in this carnival, he’s coming home. He’s got a couple of problems that we have to try and sort out,” Peters said.
“And I was looking forward to him over this carnival too, because he was coming along well.”
“He’s got two problems. It looks like he’s going to have to have a wind operation and he’s got a splint problem, he might need a screw in that. Hopefully both things can be done at the same time.”
All is not lost though for Peters however with the owner still having a strong number of runners in training with O’Brien including Western Empire, Graceful Girl and Inspirational Girl. Group One winner Regal Power is also amongst the contingent who trialled at Geelong recently and is most likely to be first to return to the track.
“They’ve all trialled now and they will trial again on the 8th of August,” Peters said.
“The first one that will probably start will be Regal Power in the PB Lawrence and then we might keep Western Empire for the Memsie, which is a couple of weeks later.”
