Peltzer has already won races at Group 2 and Group 3 level but is making his challenge for Group 1 glory as tough as possible going up against the older horses in the Saturday feature at Royal Randwick on the last day of the carnival.
Given the age of Peltzer it most likely won’t be the last Group 1 the Ryan team will aim for however given the opportunity Sydney presents it is the closest before further targets are set for the winter carnival in Brisbane.
“He is going really good,” Ryan said.
“I was quite happy with his run the other day in the Star Kingdom.
“He went a month between runs and I was going to trial him to get him ready for this race but thought I might as well race him.
“We tried something a bit different and rode him off the speed and I thought he ran quite well out wide on a day when they weren’t making ground out wide.”
Peltzer didn’t have the best of outings at Rosehill last time round however Randwick has yielded much happier hunting ground with 5 wins from 6 starts for the colt.
Tim Clark is set to ride Peltzer for the Ryan team and is currently a $31 outsider to win the race.
Masked Crusader for team Hawkes remains strong in betting at the moment as $2.90 favourite to win the $600,000 feature on the final day of the extended Sydney Carnival.
The only other runners in single figures for the race are the Godolphin pair of Savatiano and Cascadian, $7 and $8 respectively.
