Caulfield will play host to the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes this weekend and NSW trainer Bjorn Baker is set to decide if the impressive Overpass will head down to Victoria compete based on his effort in a jump out this Tuesday.
Overpass was the winner of the Group 2 Expressway on a controversial front runners track at Rosehill which saw the Baker runner beat Cox Plate runner up Anamoe.
Baker has already nominated Overpass for the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap next month at Flemington, however the colt could now be sent down earlier to compete in the 1400m Caulfield contest.
Overpass isn’t short of options by any measure with the Expressway winner already nominated for the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Randwick as well as the Southern Cross Stakes at Group 3 level of 1200m.
“We’ll see how he gallops on Tuesday and see where we go from there,” Baker said.
“At this stage, all options are open.”
At this stage all things seem prepped for a crack at the $750,000 CF Orr Stakes with Overpass already having jockey Craig Newitt booked to ride in Melbourne.
The C.F. Orr is already heating up towards being a classic with 21 runners nominated which include Group 1 winners Behemoth, Callsign Mav, I’m Thunderstruck and Colette.
In betting, recent import Sinawinn who had an impressive debut in the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley, currently sits as the $3.50 favourite with I’m Thunderstruck on the second line of betting at $4.50.
