Last preparation Mo’Unga won in his first up contest, The Winx Stakes over 1400m before returning to the track shortly after and finished behind Caulfield Cup winner Incentivise in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m.
As the spring continued Mo’Unga would go on to finish well in the Epsom Handicap and Group 1 Cox Plate before rounding out his campaign with a third place finish in the Mackinnon Stakes which was won by stablemate Zaaki.
“He has certainly proven that he is up to those weight-for-age horses,” Neasham told RacingHQ.
“I thought his best runs were his first two over the 1400m and mile, he was just beaten in the Makybe Diva.”
Trainer Neasham now has her attentions turned to the Autumn with the NSW based trainer targeting the Group One George Ryder Stakes over 1500m as the major target for her weight for age star.
“At this stage I am thinking we might just keep him at those slightly shorter trips,” Neasham said.
“We know he can get 2000m, but we think he is possibly a little bit better over the shorter trips.
“I think something like a George Ryder would be a good option for him.”
Markets are yet to be posted for the George Ryder Stakes as yet however Mo’Unga sits as a $26 chance for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes with stablemate Zaaki joint favourite for the Group 1 contest alongside Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant who is said to be having her last Australian preparation.
