Ben Melham to return to racing after injury
Ben Melham has had a mixed season in and out of the saddle to say the least however the Victorian based hoop looks set to return this week and punters will have a keen eye on the Melham markets.
After being suspended for break of Covid Protocols at the start of the season Melham made a brilliant return to racing, winning 12 races from an incredible 37 runners over just three weeks.
A fall in March then halted all progress with serious injury. Whilst riding on Adelaide Cup day at Morphettville before the Autumn Carnival, Melham fell from his ride fracturing his shoulder blade and requiring extensive rehab.
Melham made a bit part return on Wednesday where he rode two rides at Sandown Hillside going on to ride six more runners on Thursday at the mid week Cranbourne meeting.
The majority of Melham’s runners in the coming days will be for trainer and supporter Matt Laurie where Melham has a total of four from 8 runners across the two meetings for the stable.
Melham also has two rides for the training pair of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace where he has a live chance aboard Rising. The three year old is resuming from a seven month break and has been backed from an opening price of $3.40 into $2.70.
Both the Sandown and Cranbourne tracks are expected to play in the heavy range after torrential rain in the state.
