The Manikato has been famed in recent years for it’s exciting finishes and a field of 13 are set to contest the Group 1 Sprint feature over 1200m at Moonee Valley in 2021.
The pre-draw favourite was Savatoxl who fared reasonably well in the draw receiving barrier 8. Punters seemingly unphased by the slot have continued to back the 6yo Gelding with him moving from $4.50 to $4.40 in betting.
Three year old colt and second favourite Ingratiating by James Cummings achieved slightly better than Savatoxl when drawing just insisted in barrier 7.
One runner that punters are paying close attention to is the Mick Price and Michael Kent jr runner - Lombardo. The three year old comes into the race chasing a fourth straight victory. Having won a the distance 4 times and track and distance in one of those he drew barrier 3 and remained at $6.
Tony Gollan speedster Jonker was another runner who drew well on Tuesday with jockey Daniel Moor set to jump from barrier 5 with Gollan’s stable star.
Other notable draws include Swats That and Express Pass drawing the two widest gates while the red hot Bella Nipotina for Maher and Eustace drawing barrier 1.
There were a few key absences for the race with mares Brooklyn Hustle and Chris Waller trained September Run both missing however the most notable was one time Manikato favourite Paulele who is missing to focus on the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
