The biggest sale of the day was that of Magic Millions winner Away Game. With auctioneer Steve Davis summing up the sale with “You’ve got to pay more for diamonds,” when she went under the hammer for a whopping $4m.
At $4m, the sale of Away Game shot her to the top of the sales total and narrowly missed out on the $4.2m Southern Hemisphere record for a raced filly set by Sunlight in 2020.
Away Game will say farewell to the track in the upcoming Kingsford Smith Cup over 1300m at Eagle Farm. The only difference is that she will now run in the colours of her new owners, The Written Tycoon Syndicate who use the colours of Yulong Investments.
It’s ironic that Away Game returns to the same auction ring where she was sold as a yearling for $425,000 and now goes under the hammer for nearly ten times that price.
The Written Tycoon Syndicate are likely to finish as the biggest spenders at the sales having also secured the services of multiple Group 1 winner Tofane who recently finished second in the Group One All Aged Stakes.
The daughter of Cox Plate winner Ocean Park went under the hammer for $3.1m and begins a broodmare career having won 8 of 30 starts including four Group One titles in the past two years.
Her biggest racetrack victories all came at Group 1 level in the 2020 All-Aged Stakes, 2021 Stradbroke Handicap and Tattersall’s Tiara and this year’s CF Orr Stakes.
Other notable sales included that of Rubisaki, Swift Witness and Ballistic Lover who all went for seven figure sums to join Tofane and Away Game in the million dollar sale circle.
