A Group of fifteen runners will be looking to stop Zaaki winning a second Group 2 Hollindale Stakes this weekend at the Gold Coast
Its the first step towards a big Winter campaign for the Annabel Neasham trained runner who won the race in 2021 before winning the Q22 and the Group 1 Doomben Cup during last years Winter Carnival.
It won’t be a cake walk for the Mackinnon Stakes winner as Zaaki will be lining up against the lightly race Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained Ayrton.
Ayrton also headed to Queensland in 2021 and was at one time a short price favourite for the Group 1 Stradbroke before he failed to fire in the qualifying race and missed out on a starting spot altogether.
Chris Waller has typically shown a strong hand for the Hollindale entering 6 runners in the race. The Sydney trainer has entered Group 1 winners Kolding and Hungry Heart as well as racetrack regulars Kukeracha, Great House, Polly Grey and Yonkers.
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have also nominated classy filly Steinem for the race who will line up alongside stablemate Dr. Drill.
Away from the Hollindale there has been significant interest in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas with 27 runners nominated for the 1200m contest.
Again, Waller has submitted a strong line up headlined by the exciting Zarastro who will be looking to find his best on the dryer Queensland tracks.
Zaaki currently sits as a $1.70 favourite for the Hollindale whilst Prince of Boom leads the betting for the Gold Coast Guineas at $3.00.
