A huge wave of backing has flown in to support the Victorian runner with Profiteer for Mick Price and Michael Kent jr moving to not only outright favourite but crunched into $3.50 from an opening quote of $4.50.
When the barrier draw took place on Tuesday TAB reported a bet of $20,000 was quickly placed on Profiteer which saw the Kent and Price runner move into joint favouritism at $4 and since then money has continued to pour in for the 2 year old.
By Wednesday Profiteer was the outright leader in betting with him moving clear to $3.50 favourite for the race and long term favourite Stay Inside for the Freedman’s drifting out to $4.80 after drawing barrier 3.
“Since that $20,000 bet went on yesterday, the money has continued to come for Profiteer,” TAB media manager Andrew Georgiou said.
“Even without that bet of $20,000, Profiteer has been three times more popular than Stay Inside since the draw and clearly holds more than any other runner.”
Profiteer most recently ran in the Todman Stakes narrowly falling to Godolphin trained Anamoe for James Cummings. In the barrier draw on Tuesday Anomoe saw a significant drift going from $9 out to $15 in betting.
As a result of Anamoe’s drift that left 3 runners inside single figures in betting with unbeaten John Sargent trained Four Moves Ahead the only other runner seeing support in betting moving from $9 into $6.
Chris Wallers trio of runners in the race have also seen support with the Home Affairs, O’President and Shaquero all tightening in betting since the barrier draw.
