Espiona announced herself on the big stage last week with a huge win at Flemington and is now set for bigger targets in 2021 with bookmakers installing her as second favourite for the Group 1 Doncaster Mile.
Cox Plate runner up Anamoe leads the betting for the Godolphin stable for the Doncaster Mile however Espiona was right in there in betting when TAB opened all in markets on Monday for the Autumn Carnival feature.
Espiona opened at $11 on the second line of betting alongside Mick Price and Michael Kent jr’s Golden Eagle winner I’m Thunderstruck.
The bookies don’t seem to be taking any chances on the Waller trained Espiona after she crushed her opponents in the Group 3 Desirable Stakes by an impressive 6 and ½ lengths.
What was most impressive about the run was Espiona’s ability to move into another gear with just hands and heels under the ride of jockey James McDonald, blowing the field away in the final 200m.
Behind Espiona in betting are a host of horses which include stablemate Fangirl as well as noticeable runners including Ayrton, Icebath, Mo’Unga and Private Eye.
Espiona also sits prominently in the betting for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes as a $26 chance with recent Mackinnon Stakes winner Zaaki leading the betting at $8.
If it comes to fruition the QEII Stakes could prove to be the race of 2022 with UK raider Addeyyb sitting at $11 in betting alongside Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant and Caulfield Cup winner Incentivise.
