Nancho will make the first steps towards starting an Australian racing career on Tuesday when the import will trial over 900m at Randwick against a strong line up with the likes of Hungry Heart, Dreamforce and Forbidden Love.
Cummings has taken his time with the German Import who arrived in Australia with an impressive 11 wins and 3 placings from 18 starts including wins at Group 3 and Group 1 level.
His last major achievement was his win in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Bayern over 2400m in Munich 2019, a race which included last year’s Hotham Stakes winner Ashrun.
After that run Nancho was purchased by Australian connections and brought down under with Spring Campaigns in mind. The Cummings stable have taken there time with the son of Tai Chi, giving him an 18 months spell to acclimate to life down under.
Cummings now feels his runner is ready to go however with the Winx Stakes likely to be the first port of call.
“At this stage it will depend how he trials but there are a range of options for him and we will see where he fits in,” Cummings said.
“It‘s whether he is ready for the A-grade of a Winx Stakes or we run him in the 1400m handicap (Spring Preview) the week before, we are just working out where he fits.
“He is a nice horse. He was a Group 1 winner in Germany and beat some nice horses carrying top weight.
“That doesn’t happen by accident. He is pretty handy but has taken a while to get into the routine over here.”
Nancho is a versatile runner with wins between 1200m and 2400m however at this time TAB doesn’t include the German Group 1 winner in any of their all in betting.
