HONG KONG APPRENTICE HEADS HOME

Hong Kong apprentice jockey Angus Chung is set to head back to asia this week but managed to finish his time in South Australia with a win after riding his last winner for the same trainer who gave him his first down under
Angus Chung Set to return to Hong Kong

Apprentice jockey Angus Chung is to head back to Hong Kong and bowed out from Australian racing with a win in South Australia. Chung was able to guide Yeah Yeah Nah over the line in first place and will now head back home to ply his trade in Hong Kong.

Chung has spent the best part of two and a half years in South Australia and will now head back after being nominated as the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s newest apprentice meaning he will be taking on the likes of Joao Moreira and Zac Purton in the coming season.

It was a fitting end to Chung’s Australian racing career as he rode his last winner for the same trainer who gave him his first.

Port Lincoln trainer Darryl Carrison trained Barb Wire to victory in country South Australia on February 14, 202, while Yeah Yeah Nah broke through for her well-deserved maiden win on Saturday.

“He rode his first winner in Australia for me, at a place called Lock,” Carrison said.

“I quinellaed the race, he ran second, but the first horse got disqualified – the girl riding it weighed in light.

“So Angus rode his first winner by default for me and I said to him, ‘let’s go out on a winning note’ and he rode it perfectly.

“She’s been going terrific. Her work was good during the week, I dashed her up with Wotuwant and she went within two lengths of him so we walked into today pretty confident.”

Chung will now ride at the Port Augusta meeting on Sunday before heading back to Hong Kong on Thursday.
