Chris Waller did his best to bring the field up to capacity entering 6 runners for the Group 1 feature including multiple Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant who was quickly installed as a $2.80 favourite for the race.
Godolphin will be hoping to upset the apple cart once again though with James Cummings nominating Collette who recently beat the Waller contingent in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes.
Colette currently sits on the second line of betting at $3.80 however she is surrounded by a Waller runners with Kolding and Funstar sitting on the 3rd and 4th lines of betting.
Turn the clock back 12 months and it was the late Te Akau Shark who was first past the post with Verry Ellleegant half a length back at $21. This time around though bookies aren’t taking anything for granted with the Caulfield Cup winner having her close to even money to claim another Group 1 feature.
One runner punters will be keeping safe is WS Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet who flopped on his return to the track earlier in the month when a $2.80 favourite. The Maher and Eustace runner currently sits at $12 in betting.
There have been no issues with nominations for the other Group 1 on the card with the Surround Stakes for the 3 year old fillies receiving 43 nominations.
Betting for the Surround sees Dame Giselle the all in favourite at $4.50 with Magic Millions winner Away Game on the second line of betting at $7.
The race looks to be hotly contested with the likes of La Mexicana, Montefillia and another Waller runner in Hungry Heart all sitting at $8 in betting.
