The silks made famous by Winx will be once again worn by Bowman at Kensington when he rides Peter Tighe owned Unico in the final 2 year old race of the season.
It’s all round a familiar seen with trainer Chris Waller in charge of his runner, Bowman the jockey wearing the blue silks with the white M and Peter Tighe cheering on his runner.
The colours of Winx have rarely been seen in racing since the mighty mare won her 33rd consecutive race in 2019 when taking out the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in front of more than 40,000 fans at Royal Randwick.
This time around though the appearance of the trio will be met with silence as the current Sydney lockdown means that Unico will go round in front of empty stands.
“I’ve had a couple of runners in my colours in Melbourne and a few in Brisbane but I can’t remember the last time I had a Sydney starter,” Tighe said.
Unico had a start in Victoria at Werribee earlier in the season however Waller brought the 2 year old back to Rosehill with a Sydney start in mind.
“Unico has been a bit immature and Chris has given him plenty of time,” Tighe said.
“We are hoping he is a surprise packet and can keep improving. It’s a big field and I’d say most will run as this is the last two-year-old race they can get into.
“But he has the right barrier, Chris is happy with the colt, he’s done everything right and we are looking forward to the race to see what he has got.”
Unico is currently down as a $8.50 shot to open his account at Kensington.
