Pike rode Regal Power to victory in 2020 and after Arcadia Queen received barrier 5 in the draw on Tuesday he and the Williams team will be more than confident about going back to back.
The WA mare was in action last month in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield and has dominated the betting since, leading the all in markets at $3.50 with Jamie Richards trained Probabeel.
Kiwi trained Probabeel came off better that day when storming home over 1400m however the extra distance is sure to have the punters eagerly awaiting the rematch. With the Richards runner drawing barrier 10 it surely gives Arcadia Queen every chance to overturn that result.
Other notable runners include Russian Camelot who drew barrier 2. The lightly raced Danny O’Brien runner hasn’t been seen since his Melbourne Cup in 2020 and will head into this fresh also having had an interesting series of battles with Arcadia Queen in the Spring.
On the second line of betting was the Kris Lees trained Mugatoo who had a good showing in last years Cox Plate before finishing 5th in the recent Apollo Stakes at Randwick. Drawing barrier 8 Mugatoo stayed firm at $9 in the market.
Finally one runner who has seen a shift in his market price is the 2020 Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet who won on debut at the Valley but has since failed to live up to the form since. Drawing barrier 9 it’s interesting that Maher and Eustace have turned to John Allen for the run and he currently sits at $17 in betting.
