Winners and Past Results for the Tattersalls Cup.
The Tattersall's Cup is a Group 3 open handicap race for horses three years old and over hosted by Tattersall's Racing Club during the Brisbane winter racing carnival in June.
The 2200 metre race is held at Eagle Farm Racecourse with $200,000 in prize money up for grabs.
TheTattersall's Cup is scheduled on the last day of the Eagle Farm racing carnival. Other major races of the day include the Group 1 Winter Stakes (Tattersall's Tiara) and Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes.
The Tattersall's Cup usually fields local horses with staying talent who are around at this time of the year and in search of black type races to enhance their rating. Horses may make their way from the 2600m Group 3 Chairman's Handicap held earlier at Randwick Racecourse. Another likely lead up event is the Group 3 Premier's Cup held at Doomben Racecourse over the same distance and conditions. A few better performing gallopers may make their way from the Group 1 Doomben Cup or Brisbane Cup held earlier in May and early June.
Although the race may lack genuine top liners who may prefer to head for a spell prior to the event, there is still plenty of talent around that makes the Tattersall's Cup an interesting race with many horses testing their ability to step up in distance in preparation for spring. One of the likely follow up events is the Listed Grafton Cup held over 2350 metres at the Grafton track although it hasn't produced any winners in recent times.
The Tattersall's Cup was first held as a principal race over 10 furlongs in 1924 with Serelot recorded as the first winner. Golden Rhapsody won it 1980, the year that it was promoted to Group 3. Among the notable gallopers to win the Tattersall's Cup in recent times include Ice Chariot in 2007 while Mirrasalo triumphed in 2010.
