The 1400 metre set weight race offers the winning connections a purse worth $1,000,000. The event is organised by the Brisbane Racing Club and is a showcase event for top liners and promising sprinters seeking to improve over extended distances in Australian horse racing.

The BRC Sires Produce Stakes was established in 1882 and started as a Principle Race prior to gaining Group 2 recognition in 1980. It was further upgraded to Group 1 between 1987 and 2005, and was then downgraded to Group 2 in 2006.

Eagle Farm Racecourse is considered to be Queensland's premier track, and is controlled by the Brisbane Racing Club. The club was created by the merger of Brisbane Turf Club and The Queensland Turf Club in 2009. Eagle Farm is located just 8 kilometres from Brisbane's Central Business District, and has been a horse racing venue since 1865. It is considered to be one of the best tracks in Australia, with a 2027 meter circumference, which consists of a 434 meter straight.

The BRC Sires Produce Stakes usually attracts horses from the Group 2 Champagne Classic run under the same conditions, with an increase of 200 meters. The Champagne Classic is run at Doomben Racecourse during the carnival, around two weeks earlier. The horses from here usually try to step up the distance and compete in the Group 1 The TJ Smith which is run over 1600 meters, and held the following week on Stradbroke Handicap Day.

Pressday in 2010 and Lovely Jubly in 2002 both achieved this treble since the races began. In 2005, Virage de Fortune, won both the Champagne Classic and the Sires Produce Stakes. Gold Edition who placed second here, won the Champagne Classic in 2006. Impulsive Dream who placed second in 2009, Cat D'Antibes who placed third in 2008, and Diamond Deck who placed second in 2007 all placed well in the Champagne Classic as well.

Hot Snitzel who won the 2011 Sires Produce Stakes, Fravashi who won in 2008, Masked Assassin in 2007 and 2006 winner Danleigh all went on to place in the TJ Smith. Benfica who ran sixth in the 2011 Sires Produce Stakes went on to win The TJ Smith. Hot Snitzel came in from placing third in the Champagne Classic, before winning here.
