Winx Taking 40 Winks Whilst Waller Seeks Group 1 Double at Rosehill
We learned recently that Chris Waller was in pursuit of a Group 1 double this Saturday at Rosehill. Our initial thought was that he was looking to run his capable mare Winx on a week’s rest, until we dug further and learned that it is simply Waller seeking a trainer’s double.
He will saddle up runners for the Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes, or the Vinery Stud Stakes, if you prefer to call the 2000-metre set-weight for 3YO fillies by that name. No matter, same race in any event.
Foxplay and Dawn Wall are Waller’s entries in the 3YO race. Those two are the top-backed for the moment, with Foxplay at $3.40 and Dawn Wall at $5.00. Of the 12-horse field, only La Bella Diosa at $5.00 and Lubiton at $6.50, seem able to deny Waller.
As for the 2400 staying race, Waller is not so nearly well positioned for the BMW, with Who Shot The Barman at $17.00 offering the best chance, followed by Libran at $34.00 and Grand Marshal at $81.00.
Ciaron Maher’s Jameka currently enjoys favourtism at $3.80, followed by the Freedman’s Our Ivanhowe at $3.90 and Weir’s Humidor at $4.20.
It seems a shame that there are only nine horses running the BMW, but it should be a good race all the same.
