William Hill and CrownBet Join Forces to Debut BetEasy

Given the recent news that William Hill and CrownBet are joining forces, combined with the Australian Turf Club announcement that they are rebranding the Sydney Spring Carnival, we have some suggestions for all parties.

The new bookmaker will be known as BetEasy, a name that somehow sounds familiar to us. We seem to recall a homegrown operation called Beteasy, but you can see how the capital letter in the second half of the name of the new bookie makes it completely different.

We hope that the transition for William Hill and CrownBet punters is as seamless as the new outfit claims. The guardians of the English language are in a typical state of apoplexy, as marketers seem to be racing to outdo one another in creating new brands. Or, should we say, OutDo? CrownBet was attempting to revive the Sportingbet name, and would have doubtless called it SportingBet, but Sportsbet took the matter to court and blocked the move.

We’re going to need more lawyers.

The Australian Turf Club is changing the name of its spring carnival to The Everest carnival.

Our preference would have been for The EverRest, but the name might be in use by a cemetery somewhere.

Quite frankly, we experienced some amazement that the ATC did not manage to work the name of Winx in there somehow.

Here is our suggestion: The Will Winx Ever Rest spring carnival. Free to use for anyone, no contracts, no lawyers required.

ATC marketing director Chris Bevan, a person with a superfluous space between first and last name, told reporters, “The impact of The Everest in its first year across Sydney and the global racing community was astonishing and this rebrand of our Spring racing calendar to ‘Everest Carnival’ will only further highlight the world-class racing and fantastic on-course experiences available at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwickover spring.”

Expansion and contraction amongst bookmakers is nothing new, but phone bettors had better be prepared for longer hold times when online betting takes hold in the U.S. and the international agencies trip over themselves and each other to get a slice of American pie.

Make that legal online betting.
