Weir Looks to Conquer Caulfield with Sheer Numbers
Caulfield Racecourse has two Group 1 races on tap for Saturday’s meeting, along with three Group 2s and a couple of Group 3s.
Everything from the Group 1 1100 metre Oakleigh Plate run under open handicap conditions, to the weight-for-age Group 1 1400 metre Futurity Stakes, to the G2 Autumn Classic at 1800 metres for 3YOs at set weights and the Group 2 St. George Stakes at 1800 metres under weight-for-age conditions.
Black Hart Bart will be the headliner for Darren Weir in the Futurity Stakes, supported by Lucky Hussler, Palentino and Tosen Stardom. If punters can find a decent market for a Darren Weir prepared horse to take the win on an each way proposition, it might be a pretty safe wager.
Bart has run five times at Caulfield, winning four and losing only once, to you-know-who. She is not in this race, so sigh of relief for Weir’s stable. Bart won the Orr Stakes for his third Group 1 victory of the season, and so long as Weir can find races for Bart that avoid “her,” it is more than likely that he can add to that haul.
Weir is awaiting the outcome of the Futurity Stakes to determine Bart’s future endeavours, but it is a distinct possibility that Bart may spend some time lounging in the pasture. Weir is confident that Lucky Hussler will do better than the 10th from the Orr Stakes. He went on to say that Palentino is in peak form, but is better suited to 1600 metres.
Weir will field another three horses in the St. George, or if you prefer, the Peter Young Stakes.
