Turnbull Stakes Day Presented By Yellowglen

Including Roy Higgins statue unveil and world-first live mobile video announcement

The stars of the turf will step out for Turnbull Stakes Day presented by Yellowglen, the spring’s most decisive raceday ahead of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

At 11.45am Victorian Minister for Racing Martin Pakula will officially unveil a bronze statue of legendary jockey Roy Higgins MBE at the Hill Gate entrance to heritage-listed Flemington, and VRC Chairman Michael Burn will announce a racecourse world-first mobile video capability, using the new Flemington Raceday Guide iPhone app, and an updated super screen.

A video news release of the making of the Roy Higgins statue is available on request.

The $500,000 Group 1 Yellowglen Turnbull Stakes is the defining contest ahead of the spring’s biggest features, the Caulfield Cup, the Cox Plate and, of course, the $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup. Focus will be on Cup contenders including Preferment and Who Shot Thebarman along with reigning Emirates Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist. The top-class field includes key Sydney visitors Royal Descent and Hartnell, Irish import Amralah and favourite Alpine Eagle.
Flemington continues to celebrate the life and career of the Cup’s King with the Bart Cummings Walk of Fame at the West End of the Front Lawn.

James Cummings will be on track with stable veteran Precedence to contest his grandfather’s namesake race, the Group 3 The Bart Cummings, in a bid to gain automatic entry into the 2015 Emirates Melbourne Cup. He will face competition from dual German Group 1 winner Our Ivanhowe, Her Majesty The Queen’s Bold Sniper, Makybe Diva’s little sister La Amistad and early favourite Irish import Foundry.

The impressive all-black type undercard features three Group 2s: the Gilgai Stakes, TAB Edward Manifold Stakes and Blazer Stakes.

General admission patrons can enjoy the newly renovated Undercroft area including the debut of the Triple M Lounge, while Yellowglen Terrace will provide the ultimate VIP experience for all with a two story uninterrupted viewing platform with sweeping views of the track.

Racegoers can play the TAB Know Your Form betting quiz on the front lawn near the Makybe Diva statue, with great prizes to be won.

Younger racegoers can enjoy free family games and activities including pony rides, and meet Living Legend Efficient, winner of both the Turnbull Stakes and Emirates Melbourne Cup, in the pre-parade ring throughout the day.
